Signs of Endometriosis | Womens Excellence Blog

An estimated 1 in 10 women suffer from endometriosis, yet, a lot of people have never even heard of the disease.  Endometriosis is painful, life-altering, and needs to be talked about!

March is Endometriosis Awareness Month and our goal is to help you identify signs of endometriosis and if your symptoms align with this disease.

Painful Cramps

Women are conditioned to believe that their time of the month is supposed to be painful, bloody, and uncomfortable.  We’re sure that most women would agree that they would prefer NOT to be on their period; however, debilitating cramps and abdominal pain is not normal.  Unfortunately, your cycle does come with some discomfort, but you should be able to manage your pain and continue with daily activities.  If you are in severe pain month to month (or throughout the entire month!), consult with our endometriosis specialists.  Your severe pain could be a sign of endometriosis or other pelvic conditions like adhesions, uterine fibroids, or ovarian cysts.

Heavy Flow

Same with cramping, extremely heavy flow or bleeding between your periods is NOT NORMAL.

Infertility

For some women, the only symptom of endometriosis they experience is infertility.  If you’re struggling to become pregnant after 1 full year of regular intercourse, endometriosis may be the culprit.  We offer medicinal and minimally invasive surgical options to help restore your fertility.

Painful Intercourse

Painful intercourse can be a big indicator of endometriosis.  The pain may not only happen during intercourse itself.  If you are experiencing pain during, immediately after, or even a day or 2 after intercourse, discuss with your healthcare provider.

At Women’s Excellence, we understand the signs of endometriosis and are experts in the diagnosis and treatment of the disease.  To review our work, check out our pathology reports.
