Excision of Endometriosis – The Gold Standard of Care

Women’s Excellence uses the latest and newest treatment protocols in dealing with the symptoms of endometriosis. In the past, a total hysterectomy, including the uterus, fallopian tubes, and ovaries, was thought to be the only effective treatment for the condition. Today, there are now minimally invasive ways to treat the disease and protect a woman’s fertility, like excision of endometriosis utilizing the da Vinci Robotic surgical system.

What is excision of endometriosis?

Endometriosis excision (or resection of endometriosis) refers to the removal of lesions of endometriosis, which are implants of cells similar to the uterine lining located outside of the uterus. This is a type of conservative management of endometriosis. The goal is to improve symptoms while preserving the uterus, tubes and ovaries, as much as possible.

With over 1,000 cases under our belt, we are the experts of excision of endometriosis! If there is disease on the bowel, bladder, ureter, or any pelvic organ, we proceed with excision of the disease as we believe complete excision is the best way to get you back to a normal life! Our pathology reports tell the story. We resect disease from where it is, even if we have to do it in a staged approach. We are DILIGENT in removing the disease!

Endometriosis is an inflammatory disease that continues to grow with the hormones that you naturally produce. If the disease is still present, it has a tendency to re-grow. Excision or resection of endometriosis is quickly becoming the gold standard of endometriosis treatment. It is proven that excisional therapy has better outcomes for long term pain and increased fertility for those who desire children.

When we perform excision of endometriosis, we actually remove the affected area and some of the tissue around it. This alleviates the inflammation and eliminates that area of endometriosis. Extensive excision of endometriosis is felt to be the best option to decrease the amount and time for any recurrences. In many cases, a surgical cure can be achieved with the excision method.
